Privacy policy

Disaster.app helps households prepare for disasters. To do that we need some information about you and your home. This policy explains what we collect, why, who helps us run the service, and the choices you have. We wrote it in plain language; if anything is unclear, email us.

Who we are

Disaster.app ("we", "us") runs the website at disaster.app and the Disaster.app household plan service. You can reach us at support@disaster.app.

What we collect

Waitlist: your email address, the language you use and, if you give it, your ZIP code or postcode.

Free risk check: the country and the town, city or postcode you enter, to look up hazards for that place. We don't store it unless you also join the list.

Your plan: if you subscribe, the details you choose to give us to build your plan, such as your address and one more place, the people and pets in your household, contacts and meeting places, and anyone who needs extra help.

Sensitive details, such as medicines or medical equipment, stay on your device unless you choose to sync them.

Payment: payments are handled by Creem, not by us. We receive confirmation of your subscription and the email used to buy it, but never your full card details.

Technical information: basic logs such as IP address, browser type and pages visited, which we use to keep the service secure and working.

How we use it

To build, store and update your household plan, and send the alerts and reminders you ask for.

To email you about Disaster.app. If you join the waitlist, we will only email you about Disaster.app, such as when plans open. Every email has an unsubscribe link.

To run the service: keep accounts secure, prevent abuse, fix problems and understand which features are used.

We never sell your personal information, and we don't use it for advertising.

Who helps us run the service

We use a small number of trusted providers, who process data only on our instructions:

Supabase stores our database, including the waitlist and account data.

Resend sends our emails.

Perplexity, reached through Cloudflare's AI Gateway, looks up hazards for the place you enter in the free risk check. It receives only that place, its country and the page language, never your email or other details.

Creem is our merchant of record. Creem sells the subscription to you, takes payment and handles sales tax and VAT. Creem's own privacy policy covers the payment information you give them.

Our website host serves the site and keeps basic access logs.

We may also share information if the law requires it, or to protect someone's safety.

How long we keep it

Waitlist details are kept until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them, or until we close the waitlist.

Account and plan data are kept while you have an account. If you delete your account, we delete your data from our systems within 30 days, apart from records we must keep for legal or tax reasons. Plans already saved on your devices stay there until you remove them.

Your choices and rights

You can ask us for a copy of your data, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it, by emailing support@disaster.app.

You can unsubscribe from emails at any time using the link in any email.

Depending on where you live, you may have extra rights under laws such as the California Consumer Privacy Act or the GDPR. We will honor them.

Security

We encrypt data in transit, limit who can access it, and keep sensitive household details on your device by default. No service can promise perfect security, so please tell us right away if you think your account has been misused.

Children

Accounts are for adults. A household plan can include details about children that a parent or guardian adds.

Changes

If we make important changes to this policy, we will update the date at the top and tell subscribers by email before the change takes effect.
